Ginger Group acquires Sofreco, the French leader in official development assistance engineering

Elancourt – On 10 January 2023, Ginger acquired Sofreco and its subsidiary, Conseil Santé. The acquisition is part of the Ginger group’s international development strategy and is aimed at expanding its portfolio of services in the area of official development assistance (ODA), where it is already active in the environment and health sectors, by leveraging its know-how in engineering, consulting, expertise and training.

The Sofreco group is the French leader in the implementation of projects financed by official development assistance, throughout the world on technical, economic and social levels. With 120 employees at its headquarters, experts and local staff in over 100 countries and a pool of the best international experts, the Group provides a wide range of expertise in many fields, including:

  • energy, infrastructure and transport,
  • agriculture and rural development,
  • the environment and natural resource management,
  • governance and public management,
  • education, vocational training and the Perspective training and research institute, and
  • health (Conseil Santé).

It also works for major international public and private companies, particularly in the fields of:

  • mining and geology,
  • engineering in the agribusiness, chemical, fertiliser, steel and metallurgy industries.

It enjoys the confidence of prestigious clients, official development assistance and government agencies, both bilateral or multilateral, such as the World Bank, the European Union, the European Investment Bank (EIB), the French Development Agency (Agence Française de Développement – AFD), the MCC, the KFW, regional development banks, such as the African Development Bank (AfDB), the Asian Development Bank (AsDB), as well as international public or private companies.

Synergies already exist between Sofreco and the Ginger group, with the latter already exporting its expertise around the world in certain areas, including health, the environment, water resources, energy, terrestrial geophysics, and geological and seismic risks that will be the first sectors of joint development for Ginger and Sofreco. The Ginger group also has subsidiaries abroad in Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco and Côte d’Ivoire. Sofreco, for its part, has regional coordination offices in the Mediterranean countries, in Africa and Asia.

The acquisition of Sofreco is an opportunity for the Ginger group to create a new business line dedicated to official development assistance engineering, alongside the existing construction and environment business lines.

We are delighted that Sofreco is joining the Ginger group. It is a great boost for us to develop our activities in the field of official development assistance in all sectors, from health to industry, education, good governance and economics, agriculture, the environment, energy, mining, etc. These official development assistance activities are perfectly aligned with our values“, said Philippe Margarit, president of the Ginger group.

Claude Ungerer, Chairman of Sofreco/Conseil Santé, adds: “As far as the SOFRECO group is concerned, we have chosen to join the GINGER group in order to bring our know-how and references to a major French engineering company, thus creating a group of worldwide importance, in which the SOFRECO group will be able to retain its specificity and its own personality, while developing its complementarities and bringing its diversifications, both technical and geographical, to the other GINGER companies. Sofreco/Conseil Santé, in its new configuration, will continue, with its staff and experts, to provide all its know-how and experience to its clients and partners.”

Following five company integrations in less than two years, this landmark acquisition provides Ginger with a new platform for growth in a highly dynamic and meaningful field. Ginger will cross the €300 million revenue threshold in 2023, thereby strengthening its technical and human capacities.
