Ginger is working for Rio Tinto to rehabilitate a 30 ha area of land

Through its subsidiaries, BURGEAP and Ginger CEBTP, Ginger is a subcontractor in a consortium fronted by DSD Démolition (authorised representative) and Cheval TP (co-contractor), that has just been selected by RIO TINTO to rehabilitate an area of waste residues and disused basins covering approximately 30 ha at the Salindres chemical plant (30).

The plan is to remodel the general site contours by reprofiling the surface of the residues and topping it with a minimal amount of additional material to contain it. The goal is to seal the entire area to stop rainwater entering the mound of waste, thereby preventing direct contact with the stored residues, while averting air-borne particles.

By gradually drying up water contained in the stored waste, water quality in the Avène River will be improved by 2027, in line with the European Water Framework Directive.

This solution will also reconcile soil conditions, groundwater and future uses, as required by Article R.512-78 of the French Environmental Code.
The work should be completed by 2023.
