Ginger accelerates its international expansion with the Groupe ABS in Canada
The acquisition of a majority stake in the Canadian Groupe ABS, specialised in materials, geosciences and environmental engineering, marks a key step in Ginger’s international development as it establishes its presence for the first time in Canada. With some 700 employees and over 90 million Canadian dollars in turnover, ABS Group is a leader in Quebec in its fields of expertise. This acquisition aligns perfectly with Ginger's strategy of broadening its international footprint by building on existing, well-established expertise within the country.
By acquiring a majority stake in the Canadian Groupe ABS, an engineering consultancy leader in Quebec specializing in the infrastructure and environmental sectors, Ginger has gained a decisive foothold in North America.
Founded in 1993 and operating in ten regions across Quebec and Ontario, ABS Group comprises four entities that offer a wide range of services in material engineering, geosciences, building engineering, and environmental management, meeting the needs of sustainable infrastructure development.
With approximately 700 employees and revenues of over 90 million Canadian dollars, Groupe ABS has firmly established itself as a key player in Quebec. Its sustained growth is driven by the expertise of its teams, a strong technical reputation, and a continuous commitment to quality. The group collaborates with prestigious clients such as Hydro-Québec and the City of Montreal, reflecting its excellence in the sector.
This strategic partnership was made possible by the deep similarities between the two groups, particularly their shared values centred on people and technical expertise. Guided by their know-how, which is primarily focused on the durability of structures and infrastructures and environmental stewardship, both groups also share an integrated approach to engineering services, leveraging field data collection by their own teams and analysis conducted in their integrated laboratories.
This collaboration is further strengthened by linguistic and cultural proximity, facilitating teamwork and the implementation of joint projects. Operational synergies will be numerous, and the complementarity of their expertise will expand services, adding value for the international clients of both groups.
The addition of Groupe ABS marks a new chapter in Ginger Group's growth strategy, opening promising prospects for both entities.
In the words of Philippe Margarit, Chairman of the Ginger Group, "This is a significant step for the Ginger Group. I am delighted and warmly welcome Groupe ABS. Our activities and values are highly aligned, and this partnership will be an important source of mutual enrichment for our teams across continents.”
According to Daniel Mercier, President of ABS Group, "By joining forces with the Ginger Group, Groupe ABS will now benefit from a much larger pool of human and financial resources. Additionally, we will gain access to new expertise that will directly benefit our clients. Through this alliance, we will also strengthen our positioning in bids for major projects.”
