PFAS compounds present health risks with suspected carcinogenic effects. In January 2023, the French Ministry for Ecological Transition and Territorial Cohesion presented an action plan to reduce these risks and improve knowledge regarding the effects of PFAS on health and the environment. This action plan was completed in April 2024 with the intention of strengthening monitoring systems.
Several years ago, Ginger LECES developed and validated a method for measuring PFAS in stack gas based on the US EPA OTM-45 standard. This method serves as a reference for quantifying the concentration of 49 semi-volatile PFAS compounds in emissions from industrial facilities - the first step in significantly reducing emissions. Ginger LECES also carried out numerous PFAS measurement campaigns for a number of manufacturers in the Lyon region and in various fields of activity.
In April 2024, Ginger LECES obtained COFRAC accreditation, guaranteeing the reliability of its results and to quantify the concentration of PFAS compounds with the precision and accuracy required for environmental impact studies. As such, Ginger LECES is helping to improve the monitoring of PFAS compounds from ICPEs in accordance with the interministerial action plan.
‘Our goal is to meet the major challenges facing French industries at a time when environmental expectations are particularly high’ - Philippe Margarit, Chairman of Ginger.
‘We have a culture of helping our clients to meet environmental challenges, including the need to take emerging pollutants into account. The issue of quantifying PFAS in stack gas quickly became the focus of our development work, enabling us to validate innovative analytical techniques in a very short space of time. The COFRAC accreditation is a recognition of our pioneering approach’ - Yvonnick Hermange, Director of Ginger LECES.
